I did enjoy reading this story; however I think that I would have liked it more if the events had been explained more in depth. I understood that poisonous gases from the tail of a meteor wiped out most of New York, but I would have liked to know more about the specifics of the comet; why it was so close to the earth, what has happened when the tail of Halley’s Comet passed over the city

For instance, in his play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots) , Čapek coined the term ‘robot’ which he derived from a Czech word meaning forced labor. Not strictly machines, the ‘roboti’ of R.U.R. (also called ‘artificial people’ in the play) are fashioned from a chemical substrate developed in test tubes by a physiologist conducting biological research.

“The word ‘robot’ was coined by Czech playwright Karel Capek in his play Rossum’s Universal Robots, about humanlike machines. Robot comes from the Czech word robota, which means hard work or forced labor.” – Robot by Roger Bridgman

The term robot was coined in a 1920 play, Rossum’s Universal Robots, by the Czech science-fiction writer Karel Čapek. But its name betrays deeper historical roots. Robot derives its etymological roots from two Czech words, rabota (“obligatory work”) and robotnik (“serf”), to describe, in Čapek’s conception, a new class of “artificial people” that would be created to serve humans.

(Note: Isodore has a different job in the film compared to the book. Also I do muse whether ‘Rosen’ is P. K. Dick playing with a variant of ‘Rossum’ as in karel Capek’s 1920 novel R.U.R. which strands for ‘Rossum’s Universal Robots’, the novel credited with creating the concept of a humanoid robot.)
